Feeling the burden and call for more churches in the surrounding areas of Pontiac, Michigan, Pastor Arnold Hashman pioneered a new work in Waterford, Michigan. Calvary Assembly of God held its first service September 11, 1966 in the John Pierce Junior High School. There were 52 people present that first service.
In the spring of 1967, the Lord made it possible to purchase the 100 year old Waterford Community Church on Andersonville Road. |
In 1971 growing pains necessitated the purchase of property on Crescent Lake Road and in September, 1971, a beautiful new church facility was finished and dedicated to the Lord's work. |

Because of substantial growth and the conducting of two complete Sunday morning services for two years, property was again purchased, this time, 11 acres on Scott Lake Road.
On September 16, 1979, the congregation moved into the spacious and beautiful facility that we presently enjoy and renamed the church, Calvary Temple Assembly of God.
In 1983 Pastor Hashman retired after 44 years in the ministry. In August of that same year, Pastor John Gunn assumed the pastorate of Calvary Temple. His contributions to the ministry included substantial debt retirement and a thriving missions program. During his tenure, the church was renamed North Oakland Church and World Ministries Center. Pastor Gunn served the church for 13 years until his resignation on February 9, 1997. He now serves as director of the Power Company Kid's Club in Pontiac, MI, a ministry that began during his pastorate. |
